May 9, 2017 – This is a good day in MLB history, because it is the late Tony Gwynn’s birthday. Born on May 9, 1960, Gwynn would rack up over 3,000 hits, 68.8 Wins Above Replacement, 15 All-Star game appearances, and a lifetime .338 batting average over twenty years in The Show. Elected to the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility in 2007 with 97.61% vote percent, Gwynn is also considered one of the finest pure contact hitters ever to play the game.
